The main organisations providing assistance to asylum seekers in Slovakia are the Human Rights League (HRL) and the Slovak Humanitarian Council (SHC). For more information on the legal services provided by HRL to refugees and asylum seekers, see Regular Procedure: Legal Assistance.
From April 2024 to December 2026, SHC has been implementing the E.S.O. project funded through AMIF, aimed at ensuring comprehensive care and complementary support for asylum seekers, applicants for temporary protection, and holders of temporary protection accommodated in asylum facilities of the MO, and UAMs applying for asylum accommodated in the Centre for Children and Families in Medzilaborce. The project’s main activities include the provision of social, psychological, and legal assistance to the target groups.[1]
Following the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, SHC provided information services to incoming third-country nationals at three border crossing points on the Slovak-Ukrainian border, namely Ubl’a, Vyšné Nemecké, and Veľké Slemence. The provision of information was carried out in cooperation with the local border police departments and the UNHCR. These services are no longer available.
