Asylum seekers in Slovakia who are not detained are not subject to a general legal restriction on freedom of movement within the territory of the State. There is no dispersal scheme allocating applicants to specific geographic regions. However, material reception conditions are provided only while the applicant resides in an asylum facility operated by the MO. As a result, access to reception support is linked in practice to residence in a designated reception centre.
The allocation to a particular facility is organised administratively by the MO and is not based on a formal dispersal mechanism across regions. In practice, applicants usually remain in the same accommodation facility throughout the asylum procedure after the initial reception phase, and transfers between centres are relatively uncommon.
