Legal assistance for review of detention

After 3 days in detention, an asylum seeker has access to free legal assistance on detention matters only,^[1] if needed, accompanied by an interpreter. Prior to that date, other persons such as a private lawyer, a person with a power of attorney, possibly from an NGO, and the applicant may request a review of the detention order.

A child detained on the basis of the Aliens Act is always appointed a legal counsellor if they have no parent in Sweden.^[2]
