The LFIP does not lay down a specific border procedure as such although the RFIP mentions that PDMM shall be promptly notified of applications made at the border.[1]

Applications made after the border crossing are subject to the general rules laid down by the LFIP. However, in relation to applications made before the border crossing, in the transit area of an airport or after the person has been refused entry at the border, the competent PDMM shall be notified by the border authorities and brought in to handle the application. Designated officials from the PDMM “are to determine, as first matter of business”, whether the application should be subject to the Accelerated Procedure.[2]

Facilities where persons apprehended without valid documentation are held exist in İstanbul Airport, İstanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport, Ankara Esenboğa Airport and İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport. The main airport in İstanbul is now İstanbul Airport. The application procedure had improved but became more difficult in the recent years (see Access at the airport).
