Upon arrival in Türkiye, family members receive a “family residence permit” for a maximum duration of validity of 3 years.[1] Holders of this permit have access primary and secondary education institutions without obtaining a student residence permit.[2]

Adult family members on a family residence permit may apply to transfer to a short-term residence permit after 3 years of residence in Türkiye.[3] However, this condition may be waived in cases where the spouse has been a victim of domestic violence,[4] or in the event of death of the sponsor.[5]
